Concierge Logo

THE BACKGROUND

Concierge was a completely new tool, so I designed a logo to accompany its launch.

As the first-ever UI for CDS (Content Distribution Service), Concierge is the front-page of all published content from NPR and local, member stations, opening opportunities for more collaborative journalism through increased visibility into the API as well as understanding how to use the API.

THE METHODOLOGY & TOOLS

Figma

Inspiration

Previously, we had held what we called “CDS Con,” a series of info session and webinars intended to officially, fully introduce CDS to the NPR Network, advocating for further adoption. We had utilized a salmon-like orange color as CDS Con’s main event color.

Hotel concierge and concierge keys were initial associations.

Iniital Concepts

Using a circular shape as an abstraction of “CDs” (Compact Disks) aka “CDS” (Content Distribution Service).

Exploring thickness of the “C” and negative spaces. Continuing to use the salmon color from previous info sessions/webinars/discovery sessions about CDS.

Playing with color variations.

Iterations

After a feedback/critique session with both the design and marketing teams, I further played around with iterations, mostly around color and number of waves. I also put them in context of where they would most commonly be viewed.

Further Refinement

After another smaller review session, these three were the finalists.
